NSFW: 100 Movie Lines of Various Types

Stumbled across these videos rounding up the top 100 cliché movie lines, the top 100 movie insults (twice!), and the top 100 movie threats of all time. Very funny, but also very NSFW for language so watchers beware!

If you like it, you should subscribe to their channel, they've got a lot of other cool compilations.

Does This Thing Go Past 11?

Right, so do we all remember how excited we were about The Expendables when we first saw that Sly, Arnie, Willis, Li, et al. were going to be in a movie together?

Now add Chuck Norris and JCVD (and probably more Arnie and Willis).

Take a moment to let that sink in.

Now watch the trailer:

Probably One Of The Strangest Mashups You Will Ever Hear

And yet somehow it is totally fitting in a way that makes you ask, HOW HAS NO ONE THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE??!

Ahem.

Trailer Frenzy: The Avengers

So here is how my day has gone so far:

I saw this,

And then I went like this,

RDJ's snarky Tony Stark paired up with Whedonisms galore? Forget the action, I'd watch the movie just for that!

Philosopher and mathematician Bertrand Russell on the two things he would like to say to the people of the future, from 1959.

Sage words.

Go Free, Willy!

I had a similar experience in Zanzibar. We had just finished snorkelling off of some reef and were getting ready to head back to land when a guy on our boat dives back into the water. He had spotted a pod of dolphins who had just decided to drop by and say hello. Sadly, I had accidentally taken my camera for a swim earlier that day and the salt water disagreed with it, thus the lack of pictures. It was still really cool though.

Who Doesn't Love Renaissance Sci-Fi?

Here we go again: another version of The Three Musketeers for our viewing pleasure. I'll give this one props for its look and feel, and the fact that it appears to be clockpunk, which seriously needs more attention. The cast looks pretty good too: Milla Jovovich as M'lady de Winter; Orlando Bloom as the Duke of Buckingham; Logan Lerman as D'Artagnan; and Juno Temple as Queen Anne. The 3D makes me kind of leery, but who knows.

Also, found on cute patrol:

I'd say I could die happy now, but then I wouldn't be able to watch it when it comes out...

Look At Your Blog, Now Back At Mine

Hello Ladies,

Guess who's back? I'll attribute it to not really watching TV on TV any more, but somehow I managed to miss the return of Isaiah Mustafa ("Old Spice Guy") to the internets. And he has brought gifts! No, not two tickets to that thing you love, but new commercials. Oh, and they returned on my birthday. Awesome.

Obligatory: probably the best parody of the commercials, done by no less than Grover!

Forget SFX, Real Life Is Way Crazier

Sure, special effects have their place. But compared to the awesomeness of 1080p slowmo, there are some things I think can be better left to conventional cinematography. Also, someone get Ok Go one of these cameras.

A Deliciously Dreadful Christmas

So I realized today that I had somehow neglected to put anything up yet for Christmas anything not Doctor Who related and missed my usual Christmas celebrating. Jeeze, I even forgot to decorate the place! So tonight, on the eve of Christmas Eve, I present a deliciously dark version of Neil Gaiman's poem Nicholas Was.

Maybe not quite the Christmas-y cheer that one would expect being this close to the Big Day, but hey, I like Neil Gaiman.

10 Days Till Squee!

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge Doctor Who fan - *huge* - which is why the long-ish waits between seasons is pretty intolerable. Luckily it is a Christmas tradition for the beeb to have a special Christmas episode each year...

... and I'm super stoked for this year's outing. Probably more stoked than I have been for previous outings. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Tennant specials, just this is going to be the first time that we have had the same Doctor with the same companion, and in all honesty the interplay between Matt Smith and Karen Gillian is probably the best we've had in the new series. And besides, they're getting all Dickensian on us so yay!

As an extra present I dug up this British Kit-Kat commercial which is absolutely hilarious. Mostly just the beginning and the end, but still, hilarity!

Everything Is Better With Impromptu Singing

I have a confession to make.

I love Bollywood films. There is just something about how absolutely off-the-wall crazy they are in both premise and execution that is just so endearing. Especially when they more or less adapt Hollywood films and make them, well, insane. Take Back To The Future Action Replayy, in which a dude goes back in time to fix his parents marriage by making his father less of a dweeb. And sings about it. Aaaaand, let's just let the trailer say the rest.

After The Dance - Of Paradigm Shifts And Film

So I'm taking a course this year called History and Theory of the Cinema. Its actually a surprisingly difficult course in that it challenges our entrenched notions of what cinema is, what good cinema is, and how to think about what we watch. I can say for sure that I don't watch films the same way now as I did before I started in on this adventure, though it did take some time and a large mental shift to get me to appreciate the films we are being shown.
As a result I have been kicking around Vimeo more of late. In my recent journeying I came across this short film. Still being in a somewhat transitory state in regards to my appreciation of film, I can say that while I may not like this short per-se, there is a beauty about it which has invited me to watch it over and over again.
Now, I share it with you
